Accommodation options

Find your new home away from home

There are many options to choose from and our Accommodation officers are here to help you find the right place to stay during your studies at Eynesbury.

Accommodation and welfare arrangements for students under 18 years

International students under 18 years of age, who choose to have Eynesbury monitor their welfare and accommodation, are required to live in Eynesbury approved accommodation. There are two choices, Adelaide Student Lodge (ASL) or homestay accommodation. We will also organise regular catchups with our Accommodation staff to make sure students are thriving and happy in their new surroundings. These meetings are compulsory and provide students with the opportunity to discuss any issues or concerns they may have in homestay, residence or academic and social life.

There are three options for international students, who will be under 18 years of age while studying in Australia on a student visa, in order to satisfy the Governments requirements of appropriate accommodation, support and welfare arrangements:

  • A student may reside in Australia with a parent or legal custodian who travels to Australia to provide welfare for the student for the duration of their study. Apply for a Student Guardian Visa 157G  via the Department of Home Affairs.
  • A student may reside in Australia with a relative over 21 years of age who is approved by the student's parents or legal custodians, who must also nominate the relative as the student's guardian. To nominate a local guardian use Student Guardian Visa 157N  via Department of Home Affairs.
  • A student may reside in Australia if the parents approve Eynesbury monitoring the students' accommodation and general welfare arrangements. A Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare form (CAAW), will be generated by Eynesbury when the student enrols in a course of study.

When applying to study at Eynesbury College, students under the age of 18 will receive a Living Arrangements for Under 18 form to indicate which of the above options they prefer. Accommodation and Welfare and Accommodation Monitoring fees can be found under Fees and Payment

Homestay

Homestay accommodation provides students the opportunity to live with an Australian family. Students living in this environment are introduced to Australian culture and have the best opportunity of developing language skills by using English on a regular basis in everyday situations.

All Eynesbury hosts have met Eynesbury’s approval criteria and come from a diverse range of cultures, backgrounds and family structures. Our homestay hosts can provide either full board or part board homestay. Under 18 students must remain on full board until they turn 18.

Most host families are located within 20-30 minutes travelling time to the city and school by public transport.

A minimum stay in homestay is 5 weeks.

Students are provided with their own fully furnished room, shared use of bathroom, laundry and negotiated use of kitchen facilities. Unlimited internet is included in the weekly fee.

In a homestay students can expect:

  • a warm, caring family environment
  • a bedroom with a bed, a wardrobe and a desk for studying
  • use of bathroom, kitchen and laundry facilities
  • towels, pillows, bed linen and blankets
  • nutritious meals
  • unlimited internet
  • guidance, support and encouragement with English language practice, studies, planning social activities and adapting to life in Australia
  • public transport information and assistance.

Homestay part-board

Some homestays provide all the above, except meals. Students purchase and prepare their own meals using the homestay kitchen facilities. Homestay part-board is only available to students over 18 years old.

Cost

Current homestay costs can be found on the Request For Accommodation form. Weekly fee for full board includes breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday and all meals on weekends and holidays.

Private rental accommodation, usually a lease or contract for 6 to 12 months, should only be arranged after you arrive in Adelaide. Assistance is available from the Eynesbury Accommodation Office. Paying money for bond or rental before you have seen a property can lead to being misled. Beware of rental scams!

When you arrive, visit a property you are interested in renting. Go and view the property and the areas you will have access to. Be wary of making any online payments and make sure you get a receipt immediately for any money paid.

Visit www.sa.gov.au/topics/housing/renting-and-letting for information on the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords in South Australia

Temporary accommodation is available in the form of a shared dormitory (usually backpackers), hostel or hotel accommodation. We can assist in finding short-term accommodation for your parents or family if they travel to Adelaide with you. Contact the Accommodation Office for information on short term accommodation.

If required, an Eynesbury Representative will meet you on arrival at the airport and take you to your accommodation. If you have been placed into accommodation by the Accommodation Office, airport reception and transfer to your accommodation will be arranged automatically.

If you require airport pick up and have arranged your own accommodation, a fee applies for this service.

A confirmation of accommodation and airport reception [including emergency contact details] will then be sent to you when the airport pick up has been booked. Be sure to tell us these details well in advance of your arrival.

Please contact the Accommodation Office to book an airport transfer.
