Getting around Adelaide

Safe and reliable public transportation

Public transportation in Adelaide is a cost effective and efficient travel method throughout the city and the greater metropolitan area. You can catch a train, tram or bus across Adelaide at student discounted prices and some trams and buses in the city are free of charge. Adelaide has an abundance of places to eat and drink. With an ever-growing list of exciting restaurants, bars and cafes, showcasing cuisines from all over the world, you are spoiled for choice in the capital city of South Australia. 

From Eynesbury College you will be right in the culinary centre and within walking distance to Chinatown, Central Market and all the trendy cafes and restaurants located in the CBD. 

Whether you’re craving Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Malaysian, Middle Eastern food, or perhaps want to try some of the local specialties such as Coffin Bay oysters, you have a vast selection of some of the best produce in the state, served at your local restaurants and cafes.

Sports & recreation

Get active and make friends along the way

Adelaide offers great opportunities for staying active and you will find many venues hosting world class sporting events such as the Australian Football League (AFL), the Ashes cricket test series and the Adelaide International tennis tournament. 

Students can join a range of sporting and social clubs at the universities, such as Adelaide University Sport and UniSA Sport, which offer great opportunities to develop a network of friends and become involved in the university community. 

A variety of soccer clubs and other informal student groups have developed to suit students who don’t wish to commit to a full sporting program. Check the notice board on campus for more info.

Students can also join a local community or sporting club near to their home with the assistance of the Student Experience Coordinator.

Arts & culture

Discover Adelaide’s world-famous arts and culture scene

South Australia is known as the festival state of Australia and throughout the year you will find an abundance of events celebrating the best arts and culture in the country.

With the Asia-focused OzAsia arts festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the world's second-largest annual arts festival, thousands of people and performers visit Adelaide every year to experience the arts and culture scene in the heart of the city and only a stone's throw from Eynesbury College.

If you’d rather visit an art gallery or museum in your own time, the Art Gallery of South Australia and The South Australian Museum are open every day and located 10 min walk from Eynesbury College. Here you can find some of Australia’s greatest art collections and cultural artefacts.

South Australia – a state worth exploring

Easily accessible from Adelaide with car or public transport, you will find many destinations worth exploring in South Australia. From breathtaking nature in the Flinders Ranges in the north to the most beautiful scenery and wildlife experiences on Kangaroo Island in the south. There are incredible experiences to be made during your stay in Australia.

Explore the award-winning and world-renown wine regions in Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills or embody the ultimate Australian lifestyle and chill with your friends on one of the many white sandy beach along the magnificent coastline of South Australia, most of them less than 30 min away from the city centre with public transportation.

Through the Eynesbury Student Experience Program, students can access a broad range of day tours and weekend trips as available throughout the year. Popular trips have included: Monarto Zoo Safari, Murray River boat cruise, Adelaide Hills tour including strawberry picking, Cleland Wildlife Park, chocolate factory visit, koala holding, outback tours, sea kayaking and dolphin tours.

Climate 

South Australia’s Mediterranean-like climate, with mild winters and warm summers makes it perfect for getting out and exploring. 

There are four distinct seasons and the average maximum temperature in summer is 29°C and 16°C in winter. Adelaide enjoys the lowest humidity of any Australian city.
